Below are answers to frequently asked questions about the corresponding page World War II. They address concerns, questions, and misconceptions which have repeatedly arisen on the talk page. Please update this material when needed. |
- Q: I added something to the article but it got removed. Why?
- A: This article has been built by a process where all major, and often even minor, changes are brought to the discussion page to achieve consensus before being added. This is due to several reasons:
- This article is highly prone to size issues, so non-crucial details are omitted in order to retain summary style; it is additionally vulnerable to undue weight, bias and fringe theory issues
- All content in the article must adhere to the manual of style and military history style guide; of particular note is how this applies to the usage of images
- Q: Why aren't we using a specific year for the start of the war?
- A: Different historians give differing dates for the start of the war, with 1939 being most common in European and American sources and 1937 being prevalent among Asian sources. The detailed discussion of this issue can be found here.
- Q: Why aren't the belligerents listed according to the order they entered the war? Why Britain or the US are not on the top of the belligerents list?
- A: It is generally accepted that three major Allies, the USA, British Empire and the USSR bore the major brunt of the war, and, therefore, they must be on the top of the list. With regard to the order the Big Three members are listed, see discussion at Talk:World War II/Archive 40#USSR and USA at the top? that specifically explains it in more detail.
