Since when was Sir Patrick Cormack unpopular as MP?

• He is Conservative and doesnt do enough to takcle crime, litter education etc
  • Not a very good argument - those issues are the responsibilty of the council, not the MP, which incidentally, is Labour controlled...
  • I checked the council South Staffs council web site and it clearly shows one Labour councillor out of 49. Perhaps the Tories haven't yet gained sufficient dominance to achieve all they might wish. History and Etymology

I've put in some history. I don't have specialist knowledge of Wombourne, so I hope someone improves on it. I'll try to start a geospatially-located features section soon. That will definitely need a bit of help too.Sjwells53 (talk) 19:20, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Administrative County of Staffordshire

I have removed a section of text regarding the Administrative County as it was really quite inaccurate as written. Stoke-on-Trent was not part of the Administrative county of Staffordshire between the creation of the county borough in the 1920s and 1974, whilst Hanley was a county borough before that date. Wolverhampton, Walsall, West Bromwich and Smethwick were all county boroughs before 1974, and hence were not part of the Administrative County, which further lost areas in the south of the geographical county in 1966 to the enlarged County Boroughs in the area. The Administrative county was then abolished in 1974, and then a different body reconsitituted. It's all very, very complicated and best left alone here. Wom Brook

I think that Wom Brook deserves its own article that could then be expanded without taking up a large amount of space in this article, it would also make linking from another article easier as there would be a separate article on the Wom Brook. Obviously it needs a reasonable mention here, because the village is named after it, but there's clear scope for a separate article. The brook has considerable historical importance in its own right.Sjwells53 (talk) 17:48, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes, the brook powered the estate mill, as well as a number of other corn, blade and nail mills further downstream. Vestiges of these are still apparent on the walk. There was also the very important Heath Mill complex, powered by a tributary stream. If someone starts a new entry, I'll do a sketch map similar to those I've provided for the Smestow, Tame, Stour and Penk. It'll take a week or so, though. I'd suggest starting some sort of entry with a decent set of photos to cover the course of the brook.Sjwells53 (talk) 12:25, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

I have created a new article at Wom Brook and moved the Photos there but it needs expanding and a History section needs writing. Also I'm not sure what to leave in this article. @ Sjwells53 a sketch map sound should greatly benefit the article and give a people an overall picture of the walk good idea. Wombourn

"Wombourne (also spelt Wombourn)"

I am from Wombourne and it is not spelt Wombourn, all road signs, map references etc refer to Wombourne not Wombourn. The word Wombourn is a misspelling and should not be in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thebeest (talk • contribs) 21:25, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, being from Wombourne is not evidence in this matter. Thealternative spelling has been in the article ever since it was written for good reason. The modern form is very recent and is actually resisted by some local residents. I suggest referring to almost any source before 1960 to find the alternative in use.Sjwells53 (talk) 08:44, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

254 Bus Removed from service and 255 Bus Redirected

I think this part of the article needs some changes. The 254 bus's route has stopped going through Wombourne and the 255 bus's route has been altered. Last month, a friend of mine waited for a 254, not knowing that it had been removed from service, and ended up waiting nearly half an hour before having to walk almost a quarter of a mile to a 255/256 bus stop. It's unknown if the 254 will return to service through Wombourne, but I think this matter needs consideration. Any opinions? High Orbit (talk) 11:02, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

I think it's worth mentioning that the 254 bus used to go through Wombourne. A friend my mine used that bus because it went near to his house. After the 254 was discontinued (possibly due to spending cuts) he now has to walk about 400 yards to the nearest bus stop instead of 20. The 254 bus is now the 255E that runs from Merry Hill to Wall Heath. High Orbit (talk) 12:49, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Citation

An easy-to-read tourist guide, full of interesting stuff, however as an encyclopaedia article it suffers from a complete lack of citations in large sections; too much original work methinks.
