Scope of the word “Wissenschaft” edit
Wissenschaft includes other studies apart from science as well! For example theology, art, medicine, philosophy, mathematics, informatics, jurisprudence, technology, philology, psychology, agricultural science, communication science, and even economics. Merge with science? edit
I think this article is an unneccessary content fork. Wissenschaft simply means science, and the German article de:Wissenschaft is linked to the Wikidata item for science. - Soulkeeper (talk) 00:31, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
- Wissenschaft is definitely not the same as science and there is a discussion on Wikidata about it. Wissenschaft is the sum of science, humanities, and philosophy. Still I don't know what to do about this article. --Hokanomono ✉ 12:17, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
- I found this article very interesting and clearyfying, and confirms why I have found 'science' to be a to narrow concept in English, since I am a Norwegian interdisciplinary scholar brougth up with the word 'vitenskap' which obviously comes from the German 'Wissenschaft'. I also confirms the statement about using non-English words because lack of a good translation for the German 'Bildung', and thus using 'Bildung' in stead of 'formation' which seems to be the closest word, though not with identical meaning, it seems.
