Etymology
editI removed the etymology claim at the end of this article. No evidence is presented for it, and a much more plausible history is that both "magnum--a large bottle of wine" and "magnum--a large cartridge" derive from the Latin adjective magnus -a -um meaning "great" or its substantive "magnum--a great thing".
