• This article and the one about Wigtown Burghs are about the same constituency. The one I did for Wigtown has more details than the one previously done for Wigtown Burghs. The only point of disagreement is which county New Galloway was in. I say Kirkcudbrightshire, the [reviously existing article says Wigtownshire. I believe I am correct on this point.

Happy for the two to be merged - they were created around the same time. But care needs to be taken. This version contains a number of erroneous links, which I carefully avoided when creating Wigtown Burghs. The Eglintoun reference should also be to Eglinton, a problem carried over from Leigh Rayment's site.--George Burgess 16:52, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

• I take the point about the links. My approach has been to create a fairly large number of constituency articles quickly and leave the details to be tidied up later. Perhaps it would be better to investigate each link individualy, to avoid the problems caused by linking to unrelated people with the same name and inadequate checking of Rayment's information.--Gary J 21:28, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

New Galloway's county

I imagine New Galloway may have been within two counties, changing county circa 1890. And I am not sure what basis has been used for the allocation of burghs to counties in District of burghs. Laurel Bush 12:57, 16 February 2006 (UTC).

• • As I recall I looked up the counties in which different Burghs were situated, by referring to various reference books and internet sources. Differentiating between places in Ross-shire and Cromarty was particularly trying. I do not claim perfect knowledge of Scottish historical political geography, so I may have got one or two wrong. Whilst I suppose it is not impossible that New Galloway was affected by a boundary change it did not seem that was the case when I checked it before making my comment above. --Gary J 22:08, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

• • Source from 1837 which confirms the Royal Burgh of New Galloway was in Kirkcudbrightshire.

Gilbert McMicking
