HK/Macau

Hong Kong/Macau are listed as "cities." They're obviously not cities but I don't feel like getting involved in the distinctions around Chinese territories. Oh, and the HK one doesn't work anyway. Someone who cares more about geopolitics should resolve.

Would it be possible to have links to sites for people searching that aren't scams for paying for addresses? Thank you. [11/27/07 - removed US pay-for-lookup sites]

countries with white pages

seeing that this article is about white pages not telephone directory wouldnt it be more appropriat to only add countries' phone books that are white pages.

I hope that makes sence i couldnt think of another way of wording it

WikiContent?

The inclusion of WikiContent under the "See Also" heading seems kind of strange. WikiContent.org currently has about 20 names in its database -- not really feasible for use as white pages. Would anyone object to me removing it? 72.74.234.151 14:24, 19 April 2007 (UTC)David

External links seem to border on spam

Yesterday (07-Dec-24) I had removed the USA links that all pointed to the same company's five very similar websites. The company(ies) in question are all owned by one Naveen Jain, who is listed at the bottom of every page of each site. At least two of the sites listed lock their info behind pay walls, and at least two of them are not "white pages." I will leave a link to one site which does provide white pages lookup -- the others are duplicates, and all the same company.

I had also added two well-known websites that provide *free* white pages lookups: whitepages.com and anywho.com -- very likely competitors of Naveen Jain's, probably why this change got such a quick and harsh reaction. Let it be clear: Wikipedia is not here for anybody's free advertising.

To the user at 12.104.234.193 (IP aka Hilton Waikoloa Village) - log in and stop editing anonymously. If you revert again without discussion, I will request a page lock until agreement is reached. --plausible_deniability

I left in www.iaf.net, and have also removed the eight unrelated "Naveen Jain" links in the "Additional Information" section, and removed the section as nothing else is left. "Naveen Jain" information belongs on a page about Naveen Jain, not White Pages phone directories. Spammy external links removed, Page Lock requested

I undid the reversion by the anon spam user (located at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.) This person is intent on spamming Wikipedia and using it for commercial purposes. See WP:COI. Linkfarming on White_Pages

An anon user / group of users has been consistently posting links under the USA section that are either: a) owned by one certain company, or b) contain premium pay search service provided by that same certain company. The same user is also reverting undos of the links from the same company. Based on the current set of links, here is the evidence:

All of the sites share one set of nameservers and mailservers. As far as I can tell, intelius.com is not an ISP, which rules out sheer coincidence that they all just happen to have the exact same hosting parameters. According to their corporate website, Intelius is in the business of selling people white/yellow pages information online.

This is a conflict of interest, and it's also using Wikipedia as a linkfarm (as noted by editor User:Ronz.) *Busted*.

I suggest stubbing article, and removing all the external links (including the single reference). An inclusion criteria for this list needs to be decided upon, but first the edit-warring needs to be brought under control. See WP:LIST for further discussion on lists and inclusion criteria. The normal inclusion criteria is to only include list entries that have their own articles. Because we don't have any such entries, I think stubbing is the only immediate solution. --Ronz (talk) 17:36, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Stub?

By "stubbing" I mean to trim back an article to a WP:STUB, including adding Template:Stub. Specifically, I'm suggesting that all the external links be removed, which would just leave the few sentences before the "By country section". The categories and foreign language links should be kept also.

Nonsense!

The page says "white pages" is ambiguous, but I don't believe it. I've never heard of it used for whois searches. This disambiguation page should be deleted. Unfree (talk) 17:43, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
