difference between webometrics and cybermetrics59.165.190.49 10:24, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The last sentence in the article edit

The linked journal "Cybermetrics" isn't devoted entirely to this discipline, or at least it focuses on a more specific part of it:

"Cybermetrics is both an Electronic-only Journal and a Virtual Forum (The Journal) devoted to the study of the quantitative analysis of scholarly and scientific communications in the Internet." link

It's about the scientific aspects of the internet only. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.120.108.110 (talk) 20:27, 1 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Still not a word / merge discussion edit

No thesaurus I know of acknowledges this word. So it shouldn't gather prominence only via Wikipedia. I'd gather that the article shouldn't be here under its own name.

Additionally, the idea this article covers has to do with by-now common place bibliometrics, and especially information retrieval minded metrics. As such, I'd suggest that the article be merged with Information retrieval. As per the rules, I'll also put up a merger proposal on said page's talk page. Decoy (talk) 19:47, 3 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

"Webometrics" is clearly a real technical term; see it being used on [1], [2], and [3]. Certainly it can be used as a technique in information retrieval, in addition for general research or other purposes. But the content of this article is not suitable for a general overview of information retrieval, especially given that it is specific to the World Wide Web and is at most about one class of techniques. Certainly even if it was mentioned in the main information retrieval article it would also need its own page with a more detailed explanation. I added this article to Category:Information retrieval techniques and removed the merge tag. -- Beland (talk) 16:38, 14 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
