Refs needed for notoriety

I don't think this article could be considered complete without mentioning to the following, for which I have no good references:

• The Monty Python Travel Agent sketch (Bleedin' Watney's Red Barrel).
• It is said by at least one website to be the first keg bitter, which is quite notable, not to say notorious. Pterre (talk) 15:48, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Neat! Thanks for the pointers; I'm usually shy about using websites for refs, so I didn't put much in, usually relying on stuff from academic databases and LexisNexis. As to the Python sketch, I acknowledge it's a pretty notable mention of Watney's, but I question whether it's more than a trivial mention. Though, admittedly it's where I originally heard about Watney's. I'll probably work on expanding this article soon. I wish I could get a logo though. —/Mendaliv/^2¢/_Δ's/ 19:37, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm not a great fan of trivia, but Travel Agent (which mentions Red Barrel several times) is a very good indicator of how ubiquitous and reviled the product became among the chattering classes. Besides the much-repeated TV series, this sketch appeared on stage and vinyl in Monty Python Live at Drury Lane. Pterre (talk) 23:38, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

I believe that Red Barrel was the original 'Keg' despised by CAMRA. Bill Tidy penned a cartoon for them, called 'KegBuster' . There was once a public debate on the banks of the Trent, where CAMRA members discussed emptying the barrel into the filthy river. Half argued it was the worst pollution imaginable, and the other half argued no harm could come of it as the contents of the keg were already indistinguishable from the river.
