Being a child of parents living in Cobham Avenue, West Ryde, my first school, around 1944, was the Wallumetta school a short walk from home in Wharf Road, Wallumetta, now known as Wharf Road, West Ryde. The school comprised one single classroom on a large block of land. The teacher was Miss Chappis-Welsh. The local area was then known as Wallumetta and later it became Melrose park. Mr Levy authored a book about the area titled "Wallumetta" and as I recall it had a pure white cover.

For further information please contact the Local Studies Librarian on 02 9952 8353 or email rydelibrary@ryde.nsw.gov.au.https://www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/Library/Local-and-Family-History/Historic-Ryde/History-of-Ryde and there's also this: Levy, M.C.I. Wallumetta : a history of Ryde and its district, 1792 to 1945.
