"It'll be the walking bus for you sonny" isn't a helpful addition to the article unless it's from a reliable, published source. (See Wikipedia:Reliable sources) That said, David Engwicht has published material criticising the walking bus concept as too rigid and not fun for the children involved; I have added this and a reference (at the end of the article).--Travelplanner (talk) 06:49, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Concept Origin edit

The Japanese walking school bus system is not discussed at all in this article. According to "International Origins of Walking School Buses and Child Fatalities in Japan and Canada" (<http://corpus.ulaval.ca/jspui/bitstream/20.500.11794/1888/1/Walking%20school%20bus%20Japan%20and%20Canada%20final.pdf>), Japan instituted its system as a mandatory requirement for all students in 1962. (Various schools had been using similar systems before then.) The walking buses there are led by the eldest student in each bus, who holds a flag to indicate leadership.
