Talk:vz. 50

The pic isn't correct. It is a '70 with a '50 grip on it. The slide looks like is marked 70. It doesn't have the right circled 7.65 cal. marking on it, the serrations go too far forward on the slide, and the cut at the trigger guard are the blended cuts of the '70.

Why is it incorrect to refer to it as a CZ 50? So far as I know all pistols made by Česká Zbrojovka a.s., Uherský Brod are called CZ followed by a number, usually the year of first production. "Vz", being model, is surely another way of saying the same thing. It's like "Beretta 92f" versus "Beretta M92f", isn't it? Both are correct depending on your preference. On the production history page of the CZ site (http://www.czub.cz/index.php?p=8&lang=en) a picture of the Vz 70 is captioned as "CZ 70 pistol in 7.65mm cal." which seems fairly definitive. With this in mind, I'm getting rid of the "incorrectly" bits. -- Anonymous

Vz 50 is the official designation of the pistol as accepted by the Czech military. CZ 50 is a colloquial expression. The production history page of the CZ website is itself inconsistent and often switches between official designations and popular names. BroadArrow 05:46, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Vzor, basically meaning "model" or "version", is the military designation. CZ is the commercial designation. Non-military CZ firearms should be called CZs, though in common practice they are all referred to as CZ, even the military ones.

Has anyone ever heard of a "target pistol" built on the frame of the vz 50/vz 70 series?
