Birthyear

Vivian's death certificate at findadeath.com lists her birthyear as 1915. Wikipedia, as well as IMDB list the year as 1909. So, my question : can a legal document contain false information? Which is the correct year? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hotwine8 (talkcontribs) 18:40, 25 May 2006.

A death certificate is only as accurate on a DOB as the person giving the information. It is hearsay at best. Doc 17:39, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Then again, the IMDb is infamous for its lack of truth. Michael 02:13, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
And, of course, Wiki is a bastion of it (won't go into what "it" is)...Jmdeur (talk) 18:14, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Vance vs Frawley

"Vance so hated Frawley that when she received word of her former co-star's death in 1966, while out to dinner with her husband, she is reported to have happily exclaimed, "Champagne for everyone!"" wheres the source? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.98.105.194 (talkcontribs) 11:37, 14 July 2006.

I've never heard about that, though I do know the two didn't get along. Michael 02:14, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
In Desi Arnaz's "A Book" he wrote that Vivian Vance didnt have any anamosity for William. He continued to say that she just figured he was an "old poop" and couldnt be changed. Dont quote me exactly for what I just wrote. But he said something along these lines ARYAN818 07:34, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Best known for?

I was thinking that the intro might want a "best known for her role as Ethel Mertz on I Love Lucy" included, but I have to ask those who know better if that would be accurate enough - I don't personally know her from anything else. TheHYPO 13:37, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

I agree completely. Change made. --Ddawn23 09:34, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:VivVance.jpg

Studied acting under William Inge?

Something doesn't add up. If Vance was indeed born in 1909 as some sources cite, then she would have been 4 years older than Inge when she was in high school. They may have been in a class together under the tutelage of "Miss Anna" but I'm not convinced that you could say that she studied under him. Freshman Inge would have been unlikely to give much guidance to Senior Vance. Is this just another urban legend to enhance Vance's performing resume or am I missing something? Can someone give us a definitive timeline of Inge's and Vance's high school careers? I'm not taking exception to both of them studying drama under Ingleman, that's fact; only the statement that she studied under Inge. Yes, I'm aware that several internet sites giving Vance's bio state that she studied under Inge, but that doesn't always make it so. Several sites appear to be copies of others. Again, someone has changed the birthdate of Vance from 1909 to 1915. Look at it this way, if her first marriage was in 1928, and she was born in 1915, then she would have been 13 years old! Not an impossibilty, but certainly unlikely and I can guarantee she wouldn't have been allowed to go to the Independence, Kansas High School and study acting under "Miss Anna". That just wasn't done back then. Do the math. Cuprum17 (talk) 16:33, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Vivian Vance Did Not Study Under William Inge

My grandpa, Albert Sewell, Sr. was the same age as William Inge and his first cousin. When I was a child, I always asked him if he knew Vivian Vance, and he would told me that he knew who she was but she was older. The high school back in that time was grades 10-12. It definately is an urban legend that someone who is not from Indpendence made up. Did she really move to Independence because I always heard that she was from Cheryvale?

Vance Herself or a Dead Ringer in Crawford Vehicle "Our Blushing Brides"?

he article states that Vance was in only four films, and none listed are the Joan Crawford vehicle "Our Blushing Brides." (1930) However, if you take a close look at secondary characters in "Our Blushing Brides", you will notice one who plays a model at a department store and who looks and sounds exactly like young Vance. (The name "Vivian Vance" is not listed in the credits.) There might be many similar-looking blonds, but Vance had a very distinctive voice and delivery. Interesting mystery! It seems possible that like many budding starlets before her, she didn't feel like publicizing her days as what was essentially an Extra. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Younggoldchip (talkcontribs) 16:48, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
