Coren Search Bot is in error, as the equivalent text from the noted site http://www.vitarka.org/ is lifted whole from Center of the Cyclone, a book by John Lilly. I've cleaned-up this article (Vitarka) from the scrapbook-collection of quotes, sloppy references, and sloppy Wiki-tags, which concealed the quite straight-forward meaning of this term: 'theinitial application of attention to an object in the practice of meditation'.
