Dollar stores in Canada 2
This whole article as a rule is a mess. thats what happens when you try to catagorize everthing to on,..as is happening in Wikipedia, or trying to make everthing to fit into the North American formats This is a article on Variety stores.
In Ontario a dollar store and a variety/corner store are now two completely different things. In ontario canada a variety store/ convenience store is a corner store...like the Quickie mart in the Simpsons, where things are stale and old. Besides the dairy stuff and bread, and stuff in the fridges, most of the things are old and over priced. they came about because of the north American suburbs.
The dollar store came after after the woolcos/kmart and other bargin stores shuttered in the 1990's. First they were smaller, and independent and offer stuff from everywhere, and close outs. then they became small store space chains. The main one in ontario and quebec Dollarama is is a huge chain and very successful corporation, and started with larger store spaces. Most of the stuff is imported specifically for the store from china, and they brand it under their own names. they do get stuff from other manufacturers but most of the housewares is specifically imported. they also work with unknown soap manufactures to make soaps, shower gels, shampoos etc.
the continuation of the Five and dime is WALMART. Is walmart and a dollar store the same thing, absolutely not. Can you buy regual clother at a dollar store, maybe some cheap underwear, or maybe a wear once fallapart tshirt, but thats about it. Starbwoy (talk) 02:03, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
Big rewrite & merge
Price-point retailing is a popular, old, international phenomenon; there are countless variations across currency and inflation changes. As such, I've renamed dollar store to variety store, merged a bunch of articles here (e.g. five and dime and 100-yen store), and rewritten most of it.
