Misc

There is also a sixth film, called "Always My Darling", but I don't remember enough about it right now to be confident of a writeup. And yes, the "Substantial rewrite and expansion" was mine (I didn't notice that I wasn't logged in until it was nearly finished). Dbreakey 00:01, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I changed "skirt-chasing" to "girl-hunting" because that is a phrase that is regularly used in the series to describe Ataru's behavior. Dbreakey 03:10, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I added in the part about the sixth movie, because it wasn't there.Peaceman

Characters

Is it really appropriate to be talking about the characteristics of Oni here, in the character synopses? I would have thought it would be more appropriate to add this kind of information to the main Oni article, and then only have text like "Like most Oni, Lum hates garlic" (she does, by the way; she thinks it smells nasty, and the rest of the gang then set about treating her and Ten like vampires, which neither one of them cared for).

I also de-wikified a link to Oni, as there was already an earlier link in the same paragraph, and we probably don't want to be linking to disambiguation pages anyway.

Incidentally, isn't Oni supposed to be capitalized?

--David Breakey 19:47, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

For that matter, are Oni repulsed by garlic, traditionally? --David Breakey 00:06, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

No. The Oni in UY are far from the traditional Japanese Oni. Peaceman 03:35, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Hmm. Didn't know that, but it doesn't surprise me at all. And now I get to watch movies 4 & 5 over again. Hee (just got them on DVD, finally!). --David Breakey 21:38, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Remember that one early episode when they're all in ancient Japan and Oni from the future come to kidnap all the boys? Those Oni are more like the traditional Oni. Peaceman 04:06, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)

OVA's

Someone should write what the OVA's are. I only know the first one. Peaceman

Hmmm ... titles I can remember are Goat and Cheese, Terror of Girly-Eyes Measles, Shuu-chan's Memorial Album, Ryoko's September Tea Party, Catch the Heart; there are six tapes released by AnimEigo, with two OAVs on each one. I can enter them all after I get home and can browse through my collection. --David Breakey 00:23, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Wasn't there one about Inaba, that rabbit guy?Peaceman

Yep; Inaba the Dreammaker. I think that one was an hour long, so it might be just 11 OAVs total. --David Breakey 17:17, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Do you have all the episodes and OVAs?

I have everything that's been released, so far. That's volumes 1 through 30 of the series (only 20 more to go, hopefully), all the movies and all the OAVs. Mostly on DVD... yes, I'm a die-hard Lum fan (UY is what got me hooked on anime in general). I know people who could probably get the rest of it for me, but I'm satisfied to wait and support the company that's bringing it out. --David Breakey 01:11, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Can someone tell me the name of the episode where Lum's UFO crashes into Mendou property, and Lum forgets all about Ataru? It might be an OVA. Peaceman 03:35, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I think that one is is on volume 27, or so; I'll be able to tell you once I get to watch it. Sadly, I'm going to have to wait on getting the rest of the series (vols. 31+) as I'm getting a bit annoyed with AnimEigo lately (they keep giving me all of two days notice that they're going to charge my card, which leaves me scrambling to make sure I can still cover it and everything else). That, and I can get them substantially cheaper by just waiting until they hit the retail channels. --David Breakey 21:42, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanx Peaceman

Sorry about the delay, but I just got around to watching it. Yes, it is on volume 27, as released by AnimEigo, and is a two-parter comprising the last two episodes on that volume. The first one is Scramble! Rescue Lum!, and the second Death Match: Ataru vs. Mendou's Army!. At least, that's how AnimEigo has translated 'em.

DS

Hey, does anyone have info on the Urusei Yatsura game coming out on Nintendo DS? Peaceman 01:59, 3 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Its being done by Marvelous interactive, and by browsing their site there isn't any info on the release date and price, just the name on the DS list. Since there is no info at all, I believe it's still on the early stages of development. \ wolfenSilva / 11:02, 3 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Anime information

I find it odd that there is almost no information in the anime (the TV series) I think if a link to an article that has an episode list and some other basic information about it, that would be great. (Like how there's a link to Main article: Urusei Yatsura movies) i don't know much about wikipedia yet to be doing major stuff like this...so maybe someone else can..

Release dates

Can anyone verify whether this series was actually released in the 1970s? I seem to recall that the first installments were published around 1980, but I can't find anything to confirm that. At least not in English, anyway. --David Breakey 23:57, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Well, in the Ashura Bathhouse episode, Ataru says that it's 1981 or 82. At that point in the series, how long had it been broadcasted? -Peaceman
The first manga chapter was published in issue 12 of Shonen Sunday in 1979. --nihon 07:45, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
Error. The first manga was published in issue 39 of Shonen Sunday in 1979 159.226.4.134 07:45, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Article rewrite

The article seems to be getting a bit long in the tooth, so I'm trying to pare it down somewhat, moving the detailed information into separate articles, and leaving this one as more of a summary; this seems to be more in line with what other, similar articles are doing. This will also, hopefully, allow the separate articles to be expanded, as they are a bit spare at the moment. Some of the movies, Beautiful Dreamer and Lum the Forever especially, could probably be the topic of significant philosophical discussions (not that it would really be a good idea, but still).

Incidentally, can anyone encode the original names for the movies and OVAs? Unfortunately, while I am fascinated by the Japanese culture, I have to admit my command of the language is minimal, at best. The original movie titles can probably be put inline into the article, but the OVA titles should probably be dumped in here for now, until that section can be cleaned up and expanded appropriately.

Much appreciated to whomever can do this.

Hmmm...I can write some Japanese (I'm half-Japanese) but how to do that....wait, クール。 Problem solved! Peaceman 2 July 2005 23:05 (UTC)

Planet Uru

I originally said that the manga never mentioned planet Uru. I have read about half the series in the original Japanese, and a few English translation volumes... and have never seen mention of "planet Uru." However, some very knowledgable people have disagreed with me elsewhere online. Does anyone have a volume and page number, or scan of proof so we can be sure we have the correct information on this issue? Thank you. :) -- NatsukiGirl\talk 21:01, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

Yeah I have all 15 volumes in Japanese, but they never mention this planet Uru you speak of. There is an "Oni-boshi" tho... Peaceman 02:53, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
Oh, no no. I originally helped edit the title section, in which I agreed there was no mention of a "planet Uru" but to be fair to those who disagree, I wanted to make sure. So you collect the wide-ban? I only have three wide-ban (7, 10, and 13), the rest of my collection is the original "tanks." en-total between all the stuff I have I think I've read a little over half the series, plus things I've been able to catch from info online. Which, honestly, wasn't fair of me to go ahead and say there was no plant Uru, thus my concious caught up with me and I popped the qiestion. ;) If you have any loose volumes you don't need or have duplicate, if I don't already own them I might be interested in buying them off you. :) -- NatsukiGirl\talk 03:12, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
I can't remember the URL but on the Tomobiki-cho website there were translated scans of wideban volumes 6-15. In case you're interested...:) Peaceman 03:48, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
Yea, I visit tomobiki.com and furinkan.com often. The site you're refering to, though, is projectilm.net (part of tomobiki-cho). -- NatsukiGirl\talk 16:12, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

Movie entry mergers

Do we really need seperate pages for each of the movies? They're all very short stubs, and are mostly redundant with what's already on this page.

I think it would be more effective to have one Urusei Yatsura movies page. The main article is already quite large, but the individual movie articles don't really need separate pages (as you said). I suggest merging all 6 movie pages into one. --nihon 03:01, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
Sounds like a great idea. DenisMoskowitz 19:09, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
Okay, I'm making one right now. --nihon 20:16, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
Done. You can see it by clicking the link above. --nihon 21:03, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
