Doesn't the current picture show too much arching of the lower back? Shouldn't there be more movement in thoracic area? 67.189.0.65 (talk) 14:10, 23 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I think the main problem with the picture is that her hands are way to far forward. In cobra the hands are below the shoulders or further back so that they can create traction (axial extension in the spine). The arms like this would make this pose compressive to the lower back and possibly injurious and really SHOULD NOT be practiced in this fashion. In safer versions, this pose would, as 67.189 points out, create more movement in the thoracic spine as well. Cool photo though, if not a little flashy for an encyclopedia.Iṣṭa Devata (talk) 06:44, 7 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Similar poses, grouped in the article. Chiswick Chap (talk) 21:09, 13 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
posesnot similar -- upward dog is hanging on straight hands, letting body bend down under own weight, cobra is pressing hips against ground, lifting head with spine, hands only stabilizing sideways. totally different muscle action. 82.214.176.226 (talk) 12:00, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Well, they're still similar poses, if you think of the wide range of asanas, from Anantasana to Sirsasana and Chakrasana, for example, the ones in this article are clearly pretty close to each other. Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:38, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
