How about the other departments within the Faculty of Arts and Science? There's plenty of coverage for those as well. An example would be the rather large Department of Geography. Johnny Au _{(talk/contributions)} 00:33, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

@Johnny Au: you seem to have made an argument for creating a Geography page, rather than opposing the merge. Note that there is also a Computer Science department page. On balance, I weakly oppose the merge proposal on the grounds that there seems to be enough independent notability for the number 1 mathematics department in Canada. Since 2000

This section seems extremely unbalanced with half the section about a prominent case of unfair dismissal and a less prominent case of sexual discrimination. The other half is about funding acquired in the last 2 years, clearly not providing a NPOV of the developments at the University over the last 20 years. Clearly a lot is missing, both positive and negative and due weight is not given (eg Valentina Azarova case is missing). --hroest 19:27, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Executive Council of Upper Canada

In the section University of Toronto#Early history the term 'Upper Canada Executive Committee' is used. This is verbatim from a web page published by the University, but that term should probably be Executive Council of Upper Canada. We already have an article on that. This historical plaque in Kingston commemorates the first meeting of that council and uses the exact phrase 'Executive Council of Upper Canada'. See also page 38 of the Handbook by Frederick Armstrong currently used as a reference for our article on the Council. The entry in his index is for 'Executive Council'. Peacock wording

What is jeopardising the GA status is the sudden flurry of partisan editing , especially to the lede and including edits such as this . Has the University decided to recruit professional spammers to up the ante? This stuff does not belong in the lede and hardly belongs anywhere in an article about an excellent University. I might have to request full protection to force discussion here in the talk page and clean up the article so that it can deserve the Good Article status again. After the full protection is lifted, the article itself may end up being extended-confirmed-protected as semi-protection has been proven not to stop promotional editing at all. That seems reasonable. A University of this calibre deserves a GA article status article. In the list of faculties in the 'Academics' section, change "Faculty of Pharmacy" to Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, "Faculty of Social Work" to 'Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work', "Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design" to 'John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design' and "Faculty of Nursing" to 'Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing'.

Actually, I think the Munk school should be removed from this list, as it's not a faculty, but a department within the Faculty of Arts and Science (and is correctly listed on that page). Similarly, the faculty of forestry should be removed, as it no longer exists (it's been folded into the Daniels faculty of architecture). Steve Easterbrook (talk) 16:10, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

I have not added him here, because just being notable isn't enough to merit inclusion in a prose list like that; we cannot fit every notable graduate into one paragraph. That is a much better course of action. There's a reason why the List of University of Toronto alumni article exists. There are numerous hidden notes to add alumni there in the main article. Decades after the death of John Strachan???

This is what we currently have in the article: "The idea of federation initially met strong opposition at Victoria University, a Methodist school in Cobourg, but a financial incentive in 1890 convinced the school to join. Decades after the death of John Strachan, the Anglican seminary Trinity College entered federation in 1904, followed in 1910 by St. Michael's College, a Roman Catholic college founded by the Basilian Fathers." Who is this person? When was his death? Why is the length of time after his death significant? Are these pieces of info being sufficiently explained?
