where is this information coming from? this whole page reads like a brochure! What on earth is "every career field"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.149.155.83 (talk) 15:48, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:UAB blaze.jpg

Image:UAB blaze.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

UAB Civitan International Research Center

Lately I've been expanding articles about Civitan International, a nonprofit group with a focus on helping people with developmental disabilities. Civitan's flagship project is funding the Civitan International Research Center at UAB. I had considered creating a page for it, as it is one of UAB's more important research centers, but then I saw this page which lists more than 100 specialized centers at UAB. Given that there are that many, I see three options:

  1. Creating pages about the most important ones.
  2. Mentioning some of the more important ones in the UAB article.
  3. Mentioning the centers under other articles about the people that support them (ex: mentioning the Civitan International Research Center and its developmental disability research under the Civitan International article)

Does anyone have any suggestions on which course to take? SU Linguist (talk) 14:19, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

There are LOTS of centers at UAB, and some are bigger than others, for example the Comprehensive Cancer Center is probably the biggest in terms of budget and faculty. CIRC is probably very close behind. You might create a page about the important ones, like the CIRC and the CCC, but I'd also mention those along with some of the smaller but important ones on the UAB article. You might also mention them in their main articles. So, I guess I'm suggesting a hybrid of all three of your proposals :) jblake 21:58, 12 June 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jblake (talkcontribs)

Merger

The information on the new Tower from this short stub article should be merged into the main article. Agreed? NJA (t/c) 11:33, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Bold text in intro paragraph?

It doesn't seem appropriate to me that various parts of the intro paragraph other than the name itself are bolded. Nave.notnilc (talk) 02:38, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

An image used in this article, File:Uab campus night shot .jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?
Speedy deletions at commons tend to take longer than they do on Wikipedia, so there is no rush to respond. If you feel the deletion can be contested then please do so (commons:COM:SPEEDY has further information). Otherwise consider finding a replacement image before deletion occurs.

Official University Colors vs. Official colors of the UAB athletic department and teams.

The official colors of UAB and its Athletic Department differ slightly. This separation occurred in the early 1990's when former head men's basketball coach & athletic director Gene Bartow sought out more consistency of the gold color used by the various athletic teams at the university. In discussions with the uniform manufacturer at the time, Russell Athletics. He was told that the shade of bright yellow gold the Blazers wore at the time was not a standard color and would vary from run to run. At that time (1991) the school and athletic department determined to drop the gold from the official colors (which were the same for both at that time) to forest green and white. Subsequently, Russell Athletic came back to the athletic department with a solution to the "gold" problem...if UAB would choose a commonly used golden shade, consistently could then be guaranteed. At that point Coach Bartow restored the shade of old gold (used by Georgia Tech among others) to the athletic departments official colors as it remains today. The school itself did not re-institute gold and have since tweaked the green to a shade closer to evergreen. A change that was not matched by the athletics department.

The official school colors of UAB are green and white, with gold traditionally only used as an accent color: http://www.uab.edu/brand/home/standards/colors Green #1E6B52 White #FFFFFF

The official UAB Blazers athletic colors are: http://issuu.com/uabsports/docs/guide2014-15 (see page 6) Forest Green #006645 Old Gold #D2C476

Note: These hex colors match those used on official UAB athletics department web pages as the official athletics colors. This can be verified by inspecting the style elements of this page...http://www.uabsports.com/index-main.html

Recently another user, Corkeythehornetfan altered all UAB Blazers athletics related wiki pages to the official university colors without thoroughly researching whether this was correct or not. The pages have been restored to the correct colors. The Primary and Secondary styles for UAB Blazers should be corrected to match those of the UAB athletic department as those are the correct team colors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blazerjay (talkcontribs) 04:20, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Don't panic; a discussion will now take place over on Commons about whether to remove the file. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion, although please review Commons guidelines before doing so.
