GA review (see here for criteria)

  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose):   b (MoS):
    • What exactly does "laid up in ordinary" mean? I'd assume it just means that the ship was placed out of commission, but I've never heard that expression before (and it's likely that a reader wouldn't understand what it means). It might be useful to add a note the first time that phrase is used to explain it.
    • Maybe rename the section currently titled "Aftermath" to something like "Later career", since it isn't really about the aftermath of the War of 1812.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references):   b (citations to reliable sources):   c (OR):
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects):   b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales):   b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
    • The portrait of Commodore Rogers should be on the right—the MOS says that images facing in a particular direction should be on the opposite side (he's facing left, so he should be on the right).
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

I made a few tweaks to the article for grammar and flow and the like. There are just the few minor things I pointed out above that need addressing before I'll pass the article. Nice work! Parsecboy (talk) 14:51, 4 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Finding a copyeditor is difficult so thank you for going through it. The "laid up in ordinary" has been fixed. I noticed that I hadn't been consistent with the phrase and "placed in ordinary" makes more sense to the average reader. I wikiliked [[Reserve fleet|in ordinary]] in the lead of the article. Rodgers photo moved to the right and Later career was a much better title for the section. --Brad (talk) 06:04, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
No problem. When someone who reviews an article suggests it be copyedited, but then doesn't even make an attempt to fix things, that's a big pet peeve of mine :) Everything looks good to me, so I'll pass it now. So how many more of the 6 original frigates do you have left? Parsecboy (talk) 11:36, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Constitution is already at FA; Chesapeake and Congress are GA; President is waiting for a GAR. I will work those three up the scale in the next couple of months. That leaves United States, Constellation and the original six frigates article remaining which will require a large amount of effort for each. --Brad (talk) 15:32, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
