Transition metal dichalcogenides that practical applications such as solar cells?

Re the comment "Transition metal dichalcogenides are semiconductors that have practical applications such as solar cells." It would be reassuring to see some support for such claims. I am a big fan of this class of compounds but I dont think that the diselenides are used for anything of practical interest. Checking .... But for sure, a journal article saying that something is useful is not a very good source. Researchers say all kinds of stuff about materials that they have affection for.--Smokefoot (talk) 12:45, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

Over 1000 references - lets focus on secondary sources?

Agree, with the caveats noted above. There's no perfect rule here, but fundamentally the decision to include a fact in a piece involves editorial judgment. The fact that someone thinks something is notable is the first test. If someone else disagrees, they can discuss it and seek consensus with a larger group. If a fact arrives by way of a news article rather than directly from a journal article, that's a further sign of its notability.
