The M.1's variable angle of incidence wing may well have been intended to exploit gust lift, which involved extracting energy from gusts and was a popular idea in the days before the recognition of hill lift (c.1921-2) and thermal soaring (1928). The M.1 system was somewhat similar to that used in the Harth-Messerschmitt S series gliders from 1921, though the latter used wing-warping rather than differential rotation. Simons "Sailplanes" vol 1 has some info on these aircraft and on gust lift.

Tułacz may well have known about this work by 1923 and quite probably was seeking gust lift but there is no such suggestion in the only two sources I could find on the M.1; so only PR for now. Maybe there's something in Glass' articles and books but these are hard to find and are all in Polish.TSRL (talk) 16:17, 1 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
