Split image edit

Many printer drivers, or the control/application programs that come with them, contain the ability to do enlarged multi-sheet prints.

What independent programs have this ability?

  • Poster Forge [1] - poster generator; limited version free.
"Poster Forge application was designed to allow users to quickly make your own inspirational, motivational, movie or old west "Wanted" posters without any efforts and totally for free!"[2] "The free version is limited to personal usage and adds a small `Powered by Poster Forge` watermark to each poster."[3]

What programs have the ability to split an image into separate image files, for possible printing later?

  • Splitz[4] - Freeware
"Splitz! allows you to split any image into rectangular parts and export the resulting images along with the HTML table that puts them back together. This allows webmaster to create for creating mouseover effects and offers an alternative to imagemaps. It supports many images formats and includes smart JPEG compression as well as basic color balancing filters."[5][6]
  • PictureClip[7] - Freeware
"PictureClip enables the user to import an image into it and cut the image into individual picture files by the process of drawing lines on the application for the sections. The application will import image formats of BMP, GIF, and JPG; and will export in either JPG or BMP format. For those that use this application for creating images for their web pages, PictureClip will now generate the HTML for them as well."[8][9]
  • Posteriza[10] - freeware, portable (installation not required)
"It automatically includes margins to overlap and glue the pages. In addition, you can add up to 4 lines of text, as well as a frame to enhance the looks."[11]
  • PosteRazor [12] - open source
"The PosteRazor cuts a raster image into pieces which can afterwards be printed out and assembled to a poster. The resulting poster is saved as a multipage PDF document. PosteRazor is available as a Windows, an OSX and a Linux version."

This page has some useful tech tips about how to print out the pages so that they fit together well: turn off some auto features, and select "fax" print.[13] -69.87.199.108 (talk) 00:23, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't think that the inclusion of the term 'Rasterbating' is appropriate in the opening sentence of this article. 'Rasterbation' is a reference to using that program specifically, and its half-tone method of rasterization to produce large images for tiled print. I know that they have some redirects to this page regarding that program, but I feel it's incorrect to call Tiled Printing and 'Rasterbating' synonymous. I won't change this myself, out of respect, but I do request that the people interested in this article consider removing it in this context, and instead refer to a renewed interest in tiled printing due to this program.-Multicore 22:40, 16 July 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Multicore (talkcontribs)

This article is missing something and places too much emphasis on Rasterbator. If I'm not mistaken, one of the first Print Master titles from Broderbund had the ability to do tile prints in the early 1990's--though that franchise has a very bad reputation these days, it was something fresh and virtually unheard of at the time. I remember doing a four page tile print of a single image in 1995 using that title. Please consider updating this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Infinityseed (talkcontribs) 13:57, 6 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

This article has definitely been hijacked by the Rasterbator program makers. Rasterbation can be used in any printing form, such as tiled printing, but tiled printing is not rasterbation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 153.26.2.60 (talk) 20:53, 29 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

World records? edit

I can't find any secondary sources to demonstrate the notability of the claimed world records in this article, but I don't have the heart to delete them outright. There must be some student newspaper documentation or similar, but Google News isn't finding them. Dreamyshade (talk) 01:32, 21 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Rasterbation Advert edit

I'm going to tag this as reading like an advert. Per comments in an above thread, this article should be edited approptiately to not focus on "The Rasterbator". GreaseballNYC (talk) 10:47, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
