Talk:The Trinity Session/Archive 1

This page says that their version of Sweet Jane was an "almost note-for-note copy of the version on Velvet Underground's 1969 Live album". But the Cowboy Junkies page refers to Sweet Jane as a "unique cover version", and says that Lou Reed likes their version better than the original, and has started performing their version live. There are a couple of inconsistencies here:

  1. It can't be both a note-for-note copy and a unique version; which is it?
  2. If it's a copy of a live version from 1969, then Lou Reed is not performing their version, he's performing his own.

It is unique probably because it's the slowest version of "Sweet Jane" ever done. They could have wrapped up Trinity Session in about ten minutes. I don't know about Lou's VU Live 69, since I haven;t heard it. Unfortunately there's no source. I hate it when editors put "it is [insert original artists]'s favorite version and they prefer it to their own" and don't source it. --Fantailfan 11:24, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Now the page implies that CJ creatively re-interpreted the song. Nope. It isn't quite "note-for-note", but it is indeed a faithful cover of the 1969 Live version. Definitely the same mood, and same lyrics. The bridge chords are somewhat different, but not so most people would notice. And, Fantailfan, it's only slightly slower than on 1969 Live. Unique? Well, it's uniquely melodic with Margo Timmins singing, but that's about all. The band's web site, let's remember, is a promotional tool. --63.25.115.135 17:11, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
I've rewritten that part. Not to take anything away from CJ's version, which is absolutely lovely . . . just that they didn't do anything radical to the song. --63.25.10.40 19:23, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Recording Sessions section

I figured the recording of the album was interesting enough to warrant more detail. Most of the info comes from the account on the Cowboy Junkies official site. If anyone has feedback on how it can be improved, I'm all ears. Lizmarie (talk) 21:28, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
