Has anyone got any reliable sources to add?? --SunStar Net 10:23, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

There might be some older texts such as Expert Card Technique which might be public domain by now. Gluefoot 19:35, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Added Roberto Giobbi's Card College Vol. 2. He is one of the best when it comes to teaching magic. N8pilot16 (talk) 21:21, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Revealing Magic

edit

We should stop revealing magic secrets...many magical tricks are ruined by hecklers coming onto this site. -- Anonymous

I have been performing magic tricks for 15 years, and have encountered a good number of hecklers. Not once have they ever known what they were talking about. (For example, I have been called on botched passes, where someone might say "I saw you move the cards around!" but never "You call that a pass!?") Moreover, even a savvy spectator can be fooled. Dai Vernon fooled Houdini with an "ambitious card" type trick using only a double lift and a Marlo tilt -- techniques that Houdini may well have known.

On the other hand, by posting about these moves, a young enthusiast who otherwise may not have had the opportunity can be exposed to magic, and perhaps become a contributor to the art. Gluefoot 19:35, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

One-handed pass

edit

Shouldn't be on this page - it isn't actually a pass at all. Greeney 04:48, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

To the extent that a pass is just a way to transpose two packets of cards, the one-handed pass (or Charlier pass) fits the bill. I have seen the Charlier pass be employed as a pass (and not as a flourish), for example in setting the deck down on a table. (Of course, this requires strong misdirection.) A Charlier Cut can be employed as a quite effective pass, I can assure you. n8pilot16 (talk) 16:00, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merger

edit

I'd be okay with merging the pages. I wrote the "pass (sleight of hand)" page only because I didn't know that "The Pass" page existed. However, I'd like to see a more general description of the pass from the "pass (sleight of hand)." Although the pass is used primarily to control cards, it is not exclusively limited to this task. It can be used for a visual color change, for example. There are even non-card settings where it has been employed.Gluefoot 19:45, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Merging is a good idea. The Gluefoot enhancements are also good ideas.Navy.enthusiast (talk) 10:36, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I totally agree with both of you. n8pilot16 (talk) 16:00, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
