Talk:The Gift of the Emperor

The version of this short story that I read in The Complete Short Stories Of Raffles reprinted in 1987 is set on the German liner Uhlan from Southampton not in a country house. Inspector Mackenzie is not asked to assist him but in fact boards the ship at Genoa with a warrant for Raffles arrest for previous robberies. There is no mention of the Foreign Office in the story.
