"Conservative"

The addition of the adjective "conservative" or the earlier "right-wing" is problematic for a number of reasons: 1) it is an unreferenced Non-neutral Point of View statement, and as such is contrary to two of Wikipedia's three core policies. IF you can find a notable, verifiable independent source for the statement "the Press is a conservative newspaper" then you can add that to the article with appropriate citation. (and someone else can cite an opposing opinion if they find one). I expect that the Press themselves would refute the idea that they were conservative. 2) "Conserviative" would require definition - political? moral? Editorial bias? journalistic bias? target market? Y 3) It is generally difficult to pigeonhole any of New Zealand's major daily newspapers as conservative or radical. The NZ newspaper market is very different from that of the UK or major US cities: Most papers here have a virtual monopoly. You don't get the situation where newspapers take a strong political stance (compare The Daily Mirror and The Times) and compete for different sectors of the market. If a NZ daily departs too far from the neutral line, it is only likely to offend some part of its readership and lose income as a result. There is no competing market share to capture.

Finally, I come from Christchurch, I would describe myself as left wing, but I wouldn't agree that the Press is conservative by most definitions. I've seen it attack National, I've seen it attack ACT. In fact the primary trend from the New Zealand media is to be harder of whoever is in power. dramatic 08:44, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
