Although most of the contetants aren't exactly notable, this sounds like a good compromise idea and I would be happy to support it. -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 20:58, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Such an article fails WP:NOT, namely its provisions against indiscriminate information. The individual race articles already cover the race history of past racers; there's no need for another page that simply repeats information from other sources. For example, the only "notable" post-race accomplishment for David and Mary have been making the rounds on the talk show circuit. That has already been covered in the TAR 10 trivia section. Likewise, Tyler's appearance on CSI:Miami can simply be included in the trivia section of the TAR10 article. There's no need for a separate article to cover that additional piece of information. --Madchester 05:16, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair enough. I hadn't investigated the level of information available and simply suggested it as a compromise because I have a vague feeling I have seen something similar for another reality tv show. -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 06:17, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Strongly disagree. Would you merge Jackie Robinson with The Dodgers? Sarah is much more than a part of the Amazing Race, probably my favorite show on network TV. She was an incredibly important figure in the world of athletics prior to the show and that only helped bring awareness to who she is and what she is about. Sarah's accomplishments easily warrant her having a stand alone page, where her participation in The Amazing Race is but a piece of the puzzle. I believe that it would be an incredible disservice to Sarah to marginalize who she is by doing this. --Sean

First, my comment should be tempered by a strong lack of understanding of Wikipedia guidelines and best practices. On the topic of merging Sarah Reinertsen as a sub-topic of Amazing Race participants, I would vote "no." Unlike most reality show participants, who are made famous by the shows they are on, Sarah was an accomplished above the knee amputee Triathelete (and the first woman so afflicted to finish an Ironman) before her AR appearance. I'd argue that her Wikipedia entry could easily be justified without the AR appearance. Her appearances on Nightline / Runner's World cover story precede the TV show. Sarah's fame is largely due to her athletic accomplishments, not her appearance on TAR. She holds five world records for various running distances in the T42 (above knee amputee one leg) class; she is the youngest person to compete in the Paralympics and she is the first woman amputee to complete the Hawaii Ironman triathlon. In addition to the Nightline appearance, she has been on the cover of Triathlete magazine and Runner's World. The Runner's World issue with her on the cover is the most requested issue in the magazine's 40 year history. You could make a great Wikipedia article about her without any TAR content.zyxlsmit 01:52, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Information in each "profile"

edit

In each team "profile", should specific information about their participation in the race be included or just biographical-type information? I ask because I had a strong desire to rever the addition that David & Mary Conley were eliminated because they were "marked for deletion" because I didn't think it was suitable here... but in the end I resisted and thought I'd bring it up here for people to comment on :) -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 06:36, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
