Guys.. that picture is not Tavarua. Tavarua is flat. No hills, or mountainish business really what so ever. Dilapidus (talk) 03:34, 21 September 2010 (UTC) Dilapidus is right - that island in the picture is not Tavarua. It is "Monu Riki" where parts of the movie "Castaway" were filmed86.181.254.193 (talk) 23:47, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

It seems to me that the picture has been updated with the right one. Manuelzz (talk) 23:01, 9 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

The section on "Big wave surfing" reads like an advertisement for Jeff Rowley and his charity. I just removed a number of dead link references in this section. Jeff's achievement (20 foot wave without ski assist) is impressive but is not backed up by any verifiable reference. It also seems like a "personal achievement" and not an actual verified record. In my opinion, this does not deserve a section in a "geographical location" page. I am planning to come back in one month (July 2015) and remove the section "Big wave surfing". Please "Talk" if you disagree. Manuelzz (talk) 23:01, 9 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Tavarua from the surfing community's perspective edit

Tavarua has importance in William Finnegan's book Barbarian Days. He writes about the early discovery of the near perfect surfing waves there, a time of keeping the spot secret, and eventually the commercial exploitation. Tavarua seems to have some relevance and history in the surfing community. This perspective should be added to the article. --Meillo (talk) 14:30, 27 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
