Described edit

I cant find any evidence that this "species" was ever officially published in ta journal. If it was could someone provide a reference so the article can be updated?--Kevmin (talk) 22:12, 3 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • The Syrian camel was not yet published. It has been unofficially called "Camelus moreli", in honour to a late member of the expedition, but the official description waits for deeper analyses. 80.219.211.127 (talk) 12:55, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Isn't this the same species as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camelus_Moreli ? 80.121.104.95 (talk) 14:52, 9 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Combining this, with this and this, it would appear that they are the same thing. Mikenorton (talk) 15:27, 9 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
it is the same, however as noted by the anon contibuter above the species has not been formally named yet and thus the us of "Camelus moreli" should be avoided. The Camelus moreli page needs to be redirected to here for now. After a type description has been published the page can be moved/renamed as needed. --Kevmin § 17:03, 9 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Agreed, best to stick with the informal name for now. Mikenorton (talk) 17:05, 9 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
I have tagged the "C. moreli" page with a merge tag and hopefully it will be merged at some point soon. --Kevmin § 17:11, 9 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Should this even have a taxobox yet, then? FunkMonk (talk) 10:01, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Nope, I went through and removed it. It looks like the name has only been used in 2 dissertations, the most recent dating back 4 years to 2019.--Kevmin § 13:20, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

largest camelid confusion edit

On the list of largest prehistoric organisms it says the Syrian Camel is the largest camelid. But the article, although giving both total and shoulder height, doesn't state this. And the Megacamelus article states IT'S the largest camelid, but no height. References are few and far between to clarify. Can we fix this?
