Merge discussion edit
I'm personally of mixed feelings on the move. There is a good argument for putting three little articles into one. I like that. The Stud manager article, though, is sort of a people/job article, and what I wish we had was an article about equine occupations to merge that one into, or maybe merge that one into stud farm instead. Merging stub articles on basically the same subject, under different sub-headings, seems like plain good common sense to me. Some 'stubs' just can't be expanded into a decent article, for lack of anything more to say about them (anything verifiable, anyway!) (ThatPeskyCommoner (talk) 12:53, 14 February 2011 (UTC))
Live cover? edit
Apparently horse breeders say a stallion "covers" a mare when he impregnates her, yet when I look up the definition of "cover" in the dictionary, I don't find that usage. Could someone knowledgeable add information about the use of the verb and noun "cover" when referring to studs? Does it apply to other animals? DBlomgren (talk) 17:48, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
- The terminology is that "cover" refers to the act of mating (the stallion "covers" the mare), particularly when with human supervision (usually to keep the animals from injuring one aother). I don't know about other animals. It is technical language, as you can see [ http://www.thehorse.com/articles/15715/live-cover-management here] and [1]. I suppose we should add the term to the Glossary of equestrian terms. I sort of have other fish to fry, so if anyone else wants to do it, go ahead (just be sure to footnote it).
