Background

Stephen left Eton at age c.15 in 1888, his father having died in 1886. Not clear to me when he attended Christ Church. There may well have been a money issue, until his mother Ellen married.

Also not clear how Stephen met Celia Darker, daughter of Arthur Darker, who he married before going off to India.

Was Ellen Edwardes a first cousin of Stephen Edwardes the elder? At present it is only apparent to me from [1] that Stephen Edwardes was the son of Lewis Edwardes of Streatham Academy, a Welsh schoolmaster mentioned for example in [2] p. 42. Charles Matthews (talk) 12:02, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
