Change pronouns used for Bunny
Bunny identifies as a female, so please change pronouns used for her on this wiki. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.216.20.240 (talk) 17:06, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not entirely sure what Wikipedia's stand is regarding gender identification and political correctness with regard to encyclopedic accuracy; I'll look into it. Until then, article will remain as is. --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 23:07, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
- On the band's official site, on the info page with descriptions of all the band members and their characters, Christopher "Bunny" Bennett is referred to with male pronoun in his entire profile. Assuming this is his personal Facebook page, he also identifies as male there. Since primary sources are great for getting information for an article's subject's views on itself, I'd say we stick with male pronouns exclusively, since there's not even a mention of any other form of self-identification that I can easily see. —Torchiest talkedits 02:27, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for weighing in, Torchiest.
- Bunny personally has no problem with either pronoun. On his Tumblr's FAQ page, he writes:
- Which pronouns should I call you?
- If you know me just as Rabbit, it’s fine to refer to me as he/him. I’m portraying that character and I’m usually dressed as a man around conventions regardless of robot makeup.
- If you want to use she/her that’s cool too. :)
- Since Bunny himself admits to being in a gray area on this and neutral on pronoun usage, I do not see this as a MOS:IDENTITY issue and also believe the article should remain as is, in the interest of avoiding confusion. --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 03:46, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
No photo
I see that there was a speedy deletion thing for the last photo and there's no photo for the SPG wiki right now, although there's a caption for it... I'm honestly not sure what photo should be used. Maybe this one? I could easily contact Beth Riley (who took the photo) to ask for her permission if this is the one we want to use. -- MochaNeko (talk) 18:25, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- I'm getting a 403 error from that image. There's an image on TVTropes that could probably be used... --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 23:36, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- That's a good one. Kinda small, but it doesn't need to be big.MochaNeko (talk) 02:10, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- I'm sure it would be easy enough to find out who owns the image and get permission. --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 13:47, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Steam Powered Giraffe as mimes
SPG was trained in classical mime, and began busking on the streets as silent mimes. Later, however, they decided to add comedy sketches and music to their act, while still retaining the movements and motions familiar to miming. While traditional mimes are silent, the WP page on mimes mentions that contemporary mimes have "employ[ed] vocal sounds when they perform". So while SPG may not be mimes in the strictest traditional sense anymore, in retaining the movements and actions of miming they could be considered contemporary mimes. --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 08:40, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- And granted, pantomime is not mime, but in the United States the words are rather synonymous. --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 08:41, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- The WP page might say that, but it doesn't reference it. Mime is silent by definition. 46.7.236.155 (talk) 10:21, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- Depends on the definition. Merriam Webster's entry doesn't even mention silence with regard to the noun "mime", and with regard to using the word as a verb, it says, "to act a part with mimic gesture and action usually without words." Merriam-Webster definition: Mime --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 23:27, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Bunny and Rabbit.
First off, this is an encyclopedia for posting accurate information, not a wikia or a forum for being politically correct. Bunny has not legally changed his first name, so please stop removing it.
Second, as far as the official SPG website goes, Rabbit is still a male robot and referred to with male pronouns. If the robot's gender has officially changed, a CITATION is needed.
Please discuss on the talk page before making any further changes. Thank you. --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 21:32, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
Bunny has officially changed her bio on the Steam Powered Giraffe official website, and now considers herself female. The character Rabbit will also change gender, and Bunny has discussed this on her tumblr page, and has posted images of Rabbit's new 'look'. http://www.steampoweredgiraffe.com/Rabbit.html

- Rabbit may change gender in the future, but that hasn't happened yet, and the official website does not reflect this. If/when this change comes about and can be documented by reliable sources, the wiki page can be changed to reflect this. --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 21:12, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
Bunny's name and gender have now been updated on the site, and Rabbit's gender is also being updated.
As of right now, the SPG website DOES refer to Bunny as a woman. It's now beyond time to change this article to use the correct pronouns for her. Her name on the site is written as Christopher "Bunny" Bennett and the article should refer to her as such. The robot character 'Rabbit' is now officially female as well, though the official site has not yet been updated to reflect this. You can see it officially announced right here: http://officialsteampoweredgiraffe.tumblr.com/post/71828915822/steam-powered-giraffe-comic-and-rabbits-new-look
Side note -- I changed 'transgendered' to 'transgender' because the former is not a word and is completely incorrect no matter how you look at it! CaimanMalice (talk) 15:18, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- As the article you linked to uses both pronouns for Rabbit, makes no direct statement regarding Christopher/Bunny, the band's webpage itself has a big ol' "Under Construction" page for the respective band member page (as well as for several other band members), and Bunny hasn't made a statement herself (her only statements being that she's fine with both), waiting until the page updates then taking our cue from them might be the best course of action.
- Side note, "transgendered" is a word recognized by Merriam-Webster as a valid variant of "transgender," and while it is grammatically curious (it looks like the past simple tense of a verb, but is actually an adjective), there is nothing inherent about it that makes it an invalid construction. Perhaps what you meant is that "transgendered" has an offensive connotation: formulating the world like a non-linking verb, one implies that "transgender" is something that happened to someone, rather than being something that they are. Isabella's gender
Wikipedia does have a policy for trans people's genders. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Identity While Isabella has stated in the past that she was okay with being referred to as male, she has since stated otherwise. She identifies wholly as female now. (Please forgive my ineptitude, I am not a regular user.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.99.134.189 (talk) 22:56, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
Can the main page include her "dead name" for ease of accessing historical records? -- some anonymous person @ 21:47, Jan 26, 2020 (EST) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.114.171.109 (talk)
Request for minor edit in "career" section.
"Early in 2014, Bunny Bennett began to transition the character of Rabbit from male to female, coinciding with her own status as a Trans woman."
Should be
"Early in 2014, Bunny Bennett began to transition the character of Rabbit from male to female, coinciding with her own status as a trans woman."
"trans" isn't a proper noun so shouldn't be capitalize.
Image used is very dated and should be updated
It portrays Rabbit as a male robot, and Hatchworth with an outdated, early design that doesn't display the namesake trait of the character (being, of course, his hatch), as the costume was not yet completed at that time. Spine's design is also slightly dated.
This image does not adequately illustrate the band for someone reading this article seeking to learn about them, and should be replaced with a more recent image, ideally with the white-faced Rabbit design from 2015-onward.
However, I don't know how to do this, nor do I know the protocol for doing so; I just noticed it's not very informative or accurate when viewing the article for info myself.192.182.53.103 (talk) 09:48, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
