Citation on radio edit

This article was cited on dw radio (I think it was dw, i was listining to cbc overnight which plays random radio stations from around the world). They were talking about Venuzla changing timezones, claiming timezone were dictated by US, but the radio newsreader pointed out that anyone could look up standard time on the free encyclopedia wikipedia and find out the system was made by Britian. by who? perhaps you mean Britain (and, as I recall, it was made by an International Conference in 1884, in somewhere called Washington but not in the UK.. 94.30.84.71 (talk) 19:55, 7 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Improper use of "time zones" edit

The first paragraph of the article currently ends : "In regions where daylight saving time is used, that time is defined by another offset, from the standard time in its applicable time zones.". The last two words are an improper use of "time zones", and should be replaced by something like "regions". 94.30.84.71 (talk) 20:00, 7 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Missing definition edit

So the article tells Instead of what Standard time is used. Also tells, Why it was invented. It just doesnt tell, What the heck Standard time IS. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.76.4.161 (talk) 11:07, 22 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Indeed. I suggest that the introduction should say, in these or nearly these words, "In places that alter their clocks for a period around summer, Standard Time is Winter Time". It is clear that Standard Time was introduced, year-round, to replace Local Mean Solar Time, firstly in GB on 1847-12-01, though that actual name probably came later. It (usually?) is Mean Solar Time at a location within a region. Subsequently a convention was adopted of having Standard Time offset by an integral number of hours (or half- or quarter- hours) from GMT; and another one later of having Summer Time an hour advanced from Winter Time (almost everwhere that uses it). 94.30.84.71 (talk) 13:36, 21 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
