Talk:Simulation software

Terminology edit

I think that the term simulation software is more commonly used these days than computer simulation. Carl142 23:42, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

No Imitation edit

Simulation is not Imitation (see first sentence), that would be emulation [1]. A simulator does not try to mimic the real system, but is normally used just because it is different from the real system (e.g. in cost, speed or observability of specific details).--84.189.136.35 (talk) 15:56, 24 February 2009 (UTC) Add me on Facebook Falcon white — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.54.32.149 (talk) 11:38, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Merger edit

Should this article be merged with Computer Simulation? No. While computer simulation may use simulation software, simulation software does not need a computer to run and can operate completely indepedently of a traditional computer system. There are numerous examples of simulation software that runs on dedicated devices such as programmable automation controllers (PACs), distributed control systems (DCS), and SCADA systems that use microprocessor-based controllers and run simulation software to emulate and compare various theoretical process conditions with actual values measured. General Simulation edit

I feel like the last (long) paragraph of the General Simulation section was a good-faith effort to describe the primary methodologies, but that it appears to cut and paste something from a middle of a reference text. It uses references to undefined terms, jumps into the benefits/pitfalls without describing the process first, and combines everything into a giant undifferentiated paragraph. I am not knowledgable enough to pick it apart (I came here to learn about it), but it seems like someone familiar with the topic could make some substantial improvements here... --Sam (talk) 15:49, 23 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
