I put this page together because I sailed for 2 years on the Silverwalnut, and a year on the Silvertarn during the Korean War. It was a bit startling to find out that the Tarn had run aground on a Japanese island, and had to be abandoned in 1970. I noticed that the Silver Line had no mention of its existence anywhere that I could find. I am indebted to Ted Finch, S. Swiggum and M. Kohli of TheShipsList who, when I brought it to their attention, immediately put together a listing of all of the ships of the line, and now as can be seen, the history can be told. Just one of many storied merchant shipping companies.

If any of the old crew members are still around, I hope we can hear from them, on this page perhaps. JohnClarknew 19:30, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Hooray, was contacted by a shipmate on the Tarn, who sent me the log of our round the world voyage in 1952. So I have added it as an external link, an example of a typical logbook. If you didn't behave, you got "logged".. JohnClarknew (talk) 01:37, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Belay there, I contacted the Maritime Museum in Nova Scotia which collects these things, and they don't claim copyright, but suggest that the British Government probably retains copyright. I suggest you read what you cite. In plain language, it says 1. "The following general guidelines should be followed in the absence of a compelling reason to do otherwise." 2. a lead image that captures the essence of the article (recommended not to be smaller than 300px, as this will make the image smaller for users who have set 300px in their user preferences).

New special link

I'm glad to report that I found a link in, of all places, the history of U-boats. There are the stories of the Silver Line ships (and hundreds of others) that went down during the war, along with the names and ranks of the many who did not survive. I provided this link as an inline citation in the caption of the picture of the Silverpalm. Sobering thoughts come to mind.
