Talk:Si5s

Many of the things that are said about si5s, its purposes and rationale, could be said about any writing system for sign languages. As a result, the article seems to be more about the importance of writing ASL than about si5s specifically. (It even has the feel sometimes of arguing for the use of a writing system for ASL. Although this is a position that I'm personally sympathetic to, it seems inappropriate in an encyclopedia, which should state facts rather than advocating a particular, potentially controversial, position.) There is very little information about how si5s is different from other writing systems for sign languages--something I'd like to know more about. In particular, does it use only symbols that are readily available in Unicode fonts, or does it (like most other writing systems for sign languages) have symbols that are not in Unicode? If it is restricted to symbols already in Unicode, that would give it a significant technological advantage over the other systems. So, I'm hoping someone who knows the system can provide more information about it. AlbertBickford (talk) 08:56, 30 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
