Fair use rationale for Image:Coast guard flag.gif

Image:Coast guard flag.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

This newspaper article asserts that a USCGC Raymond Evans will be one of the cutters homeported in Key West. Geo Swan (talk) 17:59, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Refugee

So, I really don't want get into the fight I foresee, from this getting political, so I am just going to point out something and let y'all figure it out. In the operational histories section, first paragraph, the article reads "effective at interdicting desperate refugees". The problem is that you do not interdict refugees. Refugees are processed into your country and you have a very specific set of criteria to be considered a refugee. The USCG is in the business of "alien interdiction operations", which I have seen some official lines even calling it "alien migrant interdiction operations" but never "interdicting desperate refugees". That is worded that way, to obviously elicit a specific response. El Heuro (talk) 03:11, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Are these the same ship?

This article includes links to USCGC John Patterson (WPC-1153) and John Patterson (USCG). Are these the same ship? If so, what should the article title be? Leschnei (talk) 13:59, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

Leschnei, the article links to both the ships, and the ships' namesakes, each distinguished enlisted personnel of the Coast Guard, or one of its precursor services. Since there are already articles about other John Pattersons, the link in this article has to be to a disambiguated name. This is true for over a dozen of the distinguised namesake.

I see you removed the link for John Patterson (USCG). Since your removal was based on a simple misunderstanding, I reverted you. Most disambiguation pages say "* Joe Blow (USCG), the namesake of a Sentinel class cutter", not simply "* Joe Blow (USCG), see Sentinel class cutter". I fixed this.

Initially all the cutters were to be named after "heroes". But the second half of the list started to include enlisted personnel distinguished for remarkable performance -- the first guy who wasn't an actual hero completely disassembled an early helicopter, so it could be shipped, by air, to a remote region in Canada, where it could be reassembled in time for a successful search and rescue - a world first.
