Question: Please validate what kind of semiotics (if any) something is

I find myself using the word "semiotics" to refer to the inquisitive process of inferring a communicator's background, assumptions, cultural context, and so on from observing the casual word and symbol choices they use in making their communications. For example, by my use of the term "bikeshed" to describe the distraction that would result from pitching examples you might infer that I am a software engineer by trade. Is that a legitimate use of the word and if so could someone please validate it as a particular type of semiotics? 204.8.27.140 (talk) 18:35, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
