I just completed a cleanup of this article, but it's still confusing. More background is needed. The citations need improvment: who are Kanfer, Leventhal and Nerenz, and what have they written? Finally, the only article that links here is illusion of control, which is about a cognitive fallacy and not about personal health management.

Merge/Delete Needed

SRT in this form is mainly an explanation of situational application for illness or crimes that occur under ego depletion. I would recommend reformatting this to fit under the page Emotional Self-Regulation or simply deleting it. SRT falls under the ESR page and this page seems to lack flow. No, SRT can be seen as a superordinate theoretical construct to emotional self-regulation! The two articles should not be merged! But I agree that the article could use a lot of editing. 131.174.47.76 (talk) 14:04, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

Complete revision necessary

This article is in need of some serious editing! The Baumeister concept is repeated multiple times. While this model is surely the most influential in current research, it is also quite severely criticized currently. One aspect that is necessary in my view is streamlining of the article. Adding some other conceptual perspectives (like Carver&scheier's more metatheoretical approach) and conceptual boundaries, like the distinction of self regulation from self control would be nice.. But this field is huge, and this is a large effort, would be great to see some changes, though. I started with adding some lines on the recent critique of the strength model..
