SVG Seal

Previous SVG rendered by Inkscape to PNG

Based on Mysid (t c)'s SVG NJ Flag, I have made a SVG version of the Seal of New Jersey, Image:New Jersey state seal.svg. Unfortunately, the Wikimedia SVG renderer does not render text aligned to paths, so please look at the PNG rendered by Inkscape.

unknown source, color variations

I'd like some feedback on the seal. It differs from the low-quality seal as published by the NJ legislature and a variation that was uploaded to Wikipedia. I can make any adjustments recommended. I believe Color of the goddesses' gowns bottom portion is correctly blue, as seen in Image:250th.jpg. Google shows many variations [1]. Anyone have any sources on the correct construction? Thanks. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 17:16, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have made an improved version based on the new New Jersey flag. I still couldn't get the text rendering work, but this version is less 'cartoon-like' and more like the other versions. -- Himasaram 11:45, 15 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Rendering of the text works now -- putting the svg at the top here! -- Himasaram 23:01, 15 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hey, thanks, this looks good. I was considering changing the seal to the new one on the state flag, but lacked motivation due to the text-to-path issue. Thanks for solving that. I made some quick edits to the seal to make more buff-colored areas to white, but it really looks good. I'm going to place it in the article. I think we can start removing all PNG and GIF versions now. Thanks. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 20:52, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Glad you like it! It took me a few hours to figure out the text rendering workaround. Did you notice that I increased the diameter and thickness of the seal circle and left a little more space between it and the text? That was to make it resemble the low-res image from the state homepage better. In any case an improvement IMO. -- Himasaram 11:55, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I did notice that the text was further from the seal edge, which is more accurate. Good work. I've replaced all uses of the other images, including the other seal on commons being used in other language wikis.

    • In 2014 the Departments of Treasury and State of New Jersey empowered the creation of digital versions of the state seal for both print and online usage. The project was joint venture of the Treasury Administration Print Shop and the New Jersey State Archives. This was undertaken to address the widespread use of incorrect versions made available through the internet. Completed in 2015 it was implemented on 8-10-2015 [1]

Why is it blazoned as cabossed but not so emblazoned? --Daniel C. Boyer (talk) 04:50, 20 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

creator of the seal

edit

This website states that Francis Hopkinson created the seal, not Pierre Eugene du Simitiere. Can someone research this??? - CobaltBlueTony 17:36, 18 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I added a reference to this site: [2] from the NJ state gov't that claims du Simitiere. It seems fairly authoritative, but a well-researched print source should be found to settle the matter definitively. --dm (talk) 20:20, 15 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Underdress wrong

edit

According to New Jersey statute Title 52, §2-1, the underdress of Liberty and Ceres should be argent, not azure. These images display the underdress as azure. This should be fixed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pickleops (talkcontribs) 16:43, 23 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Rename the article

edit

I think we should rename the article to "Coat of arms of New Jersey" and have seperate infoboxes for the coat of arms and flag. Similar to the Coat of arms of New York page. Jack Ryan Morris (talk) 21:54, 10 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
