Back-ends list

Do we really need a list of supported backends? How about we summarize the results, e.g. "SANE supports all scanners on the market except for those from Acme"... 128.158.145.51 18:26, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

I agree. The list of supported back-ends was overwhelming the article. I just removed the list, but I'll support something more concise like "SANE supports X scanner models from Y number of manufacturers". — EagleOne\^Talk 17:09, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Windows port?

The infobox states that SANE is available for Windows, but it's not stated anywhere on the official site nor any builds available for download. Some searching reveals few porting attempts in starting state, none of them useable. If author(s) know of working Win32 SANE implementation, they could add a link, otherwise Windows should be removed from Operating systems line as misleading. 78.37.253.194 (talk) 20:35, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry. I found some messages about possibility of building sane-backends on windows host using Cygwin. It seems that not many people have tested it, but "README.windows" included in sane-backends distribution states that it works but with some constraints:"Only SCSI and USB (with libusb-win32) scanners may work. No FireWire/Parallel. The Cygwin libusb port is at http://sourceforge.net/projects/libusb-win32. Tested on Windows 2000 only. Should work on Windows NT/XP too; may or may not work on Windows 95/98/ME. Some scanners' backend may not work because of requirement not supported by Cygwin." (from package 1.0.21 ) Currently I'm involved into project that needs a scanner to work both on Linux and Windows platforms.
