The Mini series of carbines are based on the M1 Garand gas system that was also used to create the M-14 and the civilian M1-A1. The XGI is almost a twin to the M1 Garand and M-14 which was used by Ruger to create the Mini 14 and later the Mini Thirty after the system was shrunken.
