"Profane" Buildings? edit

A question for User:Atdheu, who wrote the section in question. In the article, Ulpiana is described as having "various other public, sacral, profane and utilitarian buildings.". My question is this: what is a "profane" building? Howicus (talk) 17:20, 14 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

It would be my guess that it is something of the nature of a public house or a bath where some profane act happened, but that is just a guess. The author of the source is Milot Berisha, an Archaeologist with the Archaeological Institute of Kosovo. Hi Howicus, I got a reply from the author of the profane writing and his response was as cited:

profane - not concerned with or devoted to religion; "secular architecture". The English word "profane" ultimately derives from Latin pro fano, "before, i.e. outside, the temple", "In front of the sanctuary," hence not within sacred ground. Hope it answers your question.
