Talk:Rob Ford/Relationship of Rob Ford and Toronto Star

Relationship of Rob Ford and Toronto Star newspaper has been strained, particularly during the 2010 Toronto municipal election, and his time in office after it. After a Star reporter allegedly trespassed on Ford's property, the Mayor threatened to cease all communication with the media if Dale was in a media scrum.

On August 17, 2010, The National Post reported that a computer user inside the Toronto Star company made edits to the Wikipedia article about Ford that his campaign considered "very serious libel" and copyright infringement. Bob Hepburn, a Toronto Star spokesman, denied responsibility for the edits. "The Toronto Star owns a couple of these IP portals and they come under Toronto Star Newspapers Limited, which is a broader thing. The Toronto Star itself has a separate portal," said Hepburn.[1]

Alleged trespass and fallout

The night of the incident, Ford offered his family the opportunity to "step aside".[2]

The morning after on The John Oakley Show on AM640, Ford pledged that he would not talk to any media scrum with Dale in it.[3]

Dale won a National Newspaper Award the week prior, Star editor Hepburn denied he would be removed from the City Hall beat.
