(contesting deletion) edit

Someone went ahead and nominated the Rape Camps stub for speedy deletion earlier today. I wrote why it should not be deleted but I had other stuff to do, so I didn't post it because I didn't have time to proofread it. The speedy deletion thing is no longer there, but I'm going to post this in case it gets nominated again.

Rape camps exist in real life and in fiction and they need an article about them.

There are dozens of articles that mention rape camps. Some have links to an article for rape camps (for instance the Vagina Monologues page, specifically the "My Vagina Was My Village" section about rape camps in Bosnia. The article says, "My Vagina Was My Village, a monologue compiled from the testimonies of Bosnian women subjected to rape camps"). This is just one example, but there are more).

When the term "rape camps" is a link, then perhaps the link should lead to a page with something on it.

It is proposed that this article be deleted because of the following concern: "Largey[sic] redundant entry which does little more than repeat the title. Also self-contradictory[sic], in that it acknowledges that the camps have primary uses other than rape (eg POW camps). Even the article[sic] cited uses the term only in scare quotes."

So if the stub is substandard, by all means help me improve this little stub and make it an article. Wikipedia is supposed to be a community project, so I didn't realize that I had to write a book with endless references for each stub and shoulder the burden totally by myself. I admit that I'm not the best at this, but my not being the best at creating a stub doesn't mean that the stub should be deleted.

I suspect that some people freak out due to the article's squeamish content. Rape is horrific, but deleting a stub because it's related to rape is wrong.

But in the proposal for deletion, the reason seemed to imply that some people don't believe that rape camps exist and are mentioned just to scare people ("scare quotes").

The stub is not contradictory. A rape camp is where lots of rape happens, and a P.O.W. camp can turn into a rape camp quickly, and may have a purpose other than rape. I put "P.O.W. camp" as an example, not the only place where it happens. I just removed P.O.W. camp to avoid any future concerns.

And even for the rape camp deniers, rape camps are common in fiction, as well, for instance various Nazi exploitation films.

Also, I cited two articles when I first wrote the stub, not just one. But I'll add another and a book ISBN, too, and links to other Wikipedia articles. I'm only one person, and I have other things to do than edit Wikipedia, but I'm trying my best to help out. I've tried to improve the brief summary, as well.

This article is a STUB, and needs to be EXPANDED, not DELETED.

Feminism? edit

The topic is interesting and does need coverage, but I fail to understand why there's a "feminism"-navbox included... is this something that only concerns women? True women are the victims, but would you conclude that the KKK is a threat only to black people and whites shouldn't care because they are not the target? I see this, as has been rightly pointed out, as a "crime against humanity" and that includes all of us. I will add a human rights navbox and give it a stub-tag if that exists.
