Kendall's Peer Review of Chidera's work

edit

Hi Chidera!

Overall I think your article edits are good. You use lots of information and statistics which I think is great. The sentence that starts with "based on a federal census..." needs to be more specific. What federal census and what year? I would also change the last sentence in the paragraph about racism in the Dominican Republic. Try not to start sentences off with this because it makes the sentence less specific and sometimes requires clarification. I would instead write like The discrimination the people endure illuminates on why there is a trend of Dominicans denying their African past. For the paragraph about discrimination against Haitians, add a hyper link to the one-drop rule to its wikipedia page. Rewrite the sentence that starts with "It is predicted that..." to 10,000-20,000 men, women, children, and elderly, who were selected by their skin color, were murdered with machetes, guns, or thrown to the sharks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kcarter49 (talkcontribs) 23:39, 16 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I really like how you sectioned your article additions into three parts. You picked an interesting topic, and I was very engaged to learn more. I would talk more about the effects of the hurricane to the people from other viewpoints. Furthermore, I would mention how successful or unsuccessful it was preventing Haitians and Dominicans from naturalizing into society. I did like how you explained the bold section perfectly. However, I think you should also try and adjust the citations. My favorite part of this was reading the statistics, it was really helpful. Overall I liked your addition and thought it was really good. Ricardo Flores

Hello! I will not talk about the use of the term race. Well, I think it is a lost discussion to explain over and over to people that there is only one human race and that they are ethnic groups.

In the section discrimination against haitians it says "who were selected by their skin color" The genocide was not committed under those terms, The criminals evaluated their viticms by their accent when pronouncing the word parsley. He also says that they were thrown at sharks, which is impossible, because it is not like the dictatorship had a tank with sharks and it is not that they prowl the coast. "the mass deportation of Haitians under the premise of purifying the racial state".First, deportations are not massive, taking into account the percentage of illegal inmigrants that exists in Dominican territory. Second, there is no such premise Dominican Republic deport immigrants who are in violation of their immigration laws.

There are the sources of what I tell you https://www.npr.org/sections/parallels/2017/10/07/555871670/80-years-on-dominicans-and-haitians-revisit-painful-memories-of-parsley-massacre https://www.migracion.gob.do/ https://www.one.gob.do/sociales/migracion https://presidencia.gob.do/themes/custom/presidency/docs/gobplan/gobplan-15/Ley-No-285-04-Migracion.pdf

Jus soli in Dominican Republic

edit

Last paragraph of the introduction says nationality in Dominican Republic works by right of blood, which is not true. This is apparent with a simple Google search. 186.120.88.33 (talk) 18:37, 3 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
