swell or shrink?

These articles state that PKD leads to dehydration of cells, not swelling. Which is true?

I also noticed that this article internally contradicts itself, saying the cells shrink in the last paragraph. This leads me to believe the main paragraph is wrong and needs to be fixed (ie, the cells don't swell).

Cells swell and lyse - this is what the Pyruvate Kinase Article says, and is consistent with a lack of ATP leading to a lack of Sodium Potassium gradient maintenance, causing Na+ to accumulate, and water to rush in due to reverse osmosis. --128.54.63.48 (talk) 23:22, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Malaria

PKD is second only to G6PD in the list of hereditary causes of episodic haemolytic anaemia. doi:10.1056/NEJMoa072464 links it to red cells being resistant to Plasmodium falciparum infection and hence offering a selection benefit. JFW | T@lk 14:04, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
