Is the "Substitution pseudomorph" phenomenon anything like [becoming] "petrified"? edit
Is the phenomenon described in the "Substitution pseudomorph" section the same as (or, similar to) the phenomenon that is responsible for creating "petrified" evidence, of certain erstwhile forms? (such as, a petrified clam?)
(I have a petrified clam in my house. It is a rock, but its shape is the shape of a clam.)
Just curious!
