Roman Catholic Rosary - Number of Beads is 59, not "54 and 5 additional" - inconsistent counting in "Structure" section edit

Why is it relevant to state "54 and 5" vs the appropriate way "59"? We don't say "seven and three additional fingers". This causes confusion elsewhere. Please state "59" and if there's a reason the other is significant the explain why elsewhere as it's not there. None of the other in the "structure" section use this type of sloppy counting.

Non-denominational Section edit

Needs clean up or removal. Poor quality.

I actually found this helpful, but I would be interested to know of other types of prayer beads and which religion/practice uses them. Photos are helpful.

Prayer beads can also be used for their emotional and psychological value by anyone, regardless of religion or spirituality. Rather than being designed around a specific number and traditional chant or prayer, these prayer beads are created to aid with a specific intention. The intention can be anything from health to protection to love. The materials used to create the beads are also important. Gemstones contribute their own natural energies, and should reflect the intent or purpose of the beads. You can view some brief instructional videos here: http://www.youtube.com/user/PrayerBeadsAmulets, and view pictures and descriptions of non-denominational prayer beads here: www.prayerbeading.com 174.252.195.99 (talk) 16:57, 13 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Terminology edit

Is the term "rosary" correctly applied to non-Christian prayer beads? Either way, it would be nice to explain this explicitly. -- Beland 19:22, 17 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

High quality prayer beads sold in Madinah are apparently made in Italy and labelled 'Mohammedan Rosary'. So yes.--عبد المؤمن (talk) 15:48, 21 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sikhism edit

I'm afraid I'm rather unfamiliar with many of the tenets of Sikhism. Can anyone provide a sourced explanation of why Sikhs use 108 prayer beads/knots? Peter Deer (talk) 06:02, 19 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nazarene? edit

What on Earth is the Gnostic Nazoreans? I'm a scholar of religion and I can't even figure out what that nonsense is. em zilch (talk) 03:49, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Baha'i edit

It said in the beginning the article, that Baha'is also use prayer beads, but, there was section in the article to give further information on their use or traditions with them, as there were with the other religions. Could someone please elaborate further on their use? Thanks.--Splashen (talk) 04:09, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal edit

@MatthewVanitas: and @Sa.vakilian: and @Mhhossein: This section was in the Misbaha talk page and after merging request move this discussion to the talk page of the surviving article.Saff V. (talk) 11:41, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

@MatthewVanitas: and @Sa.vakilian:: There is same pages about a string of prayer beads but this article is about Muslims prayer beads. Therefore is better merge with Tasbih page. The text of Misbaha can merge into Made of section in the Tasbih page and change the name of section into Misbaha.Saff V. (talk) 08:22, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Oppose These articles refer to two separate issues. Misbaha refers to a thing while Tasbih refers to a kind of prayer.--Seyyed(t-c) 09:51, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Sa.vakilian: and @Mhhossein: This article is same as Prayer beads. Therefore, we can use the text in the Prayer beads page.Saff V. (talk) 10:00, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Saff V.: Before expressing my own opinion, please move this discussion to the talk page of the surviving article, Prayer beads. Note that, you have to edit the tags so that they take the editors the new discussion page. Mhhossein (talk) 11:27, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Sa.vakilian: I think there's a misunderstanding here. Saff V. is proposing to merge Misbaha in this article, which is a good proposal and I support. In fact, Tasbih which is a prayer, is not in any sides of the story! What do you think now? Mhhossein (talk) 11:47, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Then this a clearly bad idea. In many cases we have an article which describe a general issue and then each religion has a particular article for its own usage. You can find an example in Infallibility and Ismah.--Seyyed(t-c) 13:06, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Seyyed:I would agree with you if the case was similar to Infallibility and Ismah. Our case is a short article which needs a background from a broader article. If the dedicated section is improved in future, we may split it into separate articles. Mhhossein (talk) 04:40, 12 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Sa.vakilian: I'm arguing based on WP:MERGEREASON #4. Mhhossein (talk) 05:16, 13 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I disagree with you and prefer to complete two separate articles.--Seyyed(t-c) 06:01, 13 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Sa.vakilian: You must have a reasonable justification for your disagreement. Mhhossein (talk) 18:15, 13 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
I mentioned my reason at the beginning of the discussion!--Seyyed(t-c) 07:57, 14 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Sa.vakilian: I tried to base my argument on the policies which you did not. So, we'll merge it unless you can present one reasonable policy based reason for your disagreement. Mhhossein (talk) 04:57, 15 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Further Information For 'Materials used for making prayer beads' edit

In addition to the various seeds, gems, etc., why not also add a list of the different accessories that which are also added onto different prayer beads? Splashen (talk) 19:34, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
