Is this section really encyclopaedic? I mean, does anyone outside of Pinelands actually care? If, perhaps, this section were to discuss famous people who live in Pinelands (where by "famous" I mean famous outside of Pinelands - e.g. Patricia de Lille), it would make sense. Although, would anyone outside of Pinelands actually care about reading about Pinelands anyway? Oh, ok, I get it now. This entry was actually written FOR people outside of Pinelands. You see, as someone who lives in Pinelands, I guess I view it differently. I also realzie that wikipedia couldn't ever have something that isn't even remotely humourous, because, well, its an encyclopedia. All I can ask is that you look here: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=98234967 because this is what the young-adult generation of Pinelands are proud of rather then the boring Garden City aspect of it. Blanketman is a LEGEND and anyone visiting Pinelands can (and will) see him there. At very least, can you not include a link to this profile? Because, although it is dangerously borderlining funny, it is what the people of P-lands care about.

Oh, and this is not shameless self promotion either, this is not my profile, I dont have a myspace account, although Id love to meet the person who made it cos it shows how much we love where we live and what we find important. Forgive my rambling and my lack of id.

Demographic info sources

For the commented-out demographic info, the only useful source I can think of is the census data for ward 53 - which includes Pinelands, but also Thornton, Ndabeni, Maitland Garden Village, half of Epping Industria and a bit of Langa. That data supports the mainly-white-English assertion and, I suppose, the smaller-numbers-of-Afrikaners assertion. However, the non-whites-in-extreme-minority and fair-amount-of-Dutch-people assertions would need some other source for verification. - htonl 01:19, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Actually, if you just go there and look for yourself that's enough evidence. Pinelands has always been a white, Christian neighbourhood with little tolerance for anything else. Well, whether or not that is true, Wikipedia has a policy of "No original research"; going to Pinelands to look for yourself would be original research. Also, statements must be verifiable through reliable sources to be included. So, give a reliable, published source stating what you claim, and it could be included in the article. - htonl 20:02, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

As a final note to this discussion, I have discovered that the City of Cape Town has per-suburb census data. The data for Pinelands is at http://www.capetown.gov.za/censusInfo/Census2001-new/Suburbs/Pinelands.htm and it shows that Pinelands is pretty white and pretty English. Blue School closed?

According to the Afrikaans Wikipedia, the "blue school" has closed. Is this correct? Greenman (talk) 11:47, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

According to the WCED EMIS website ([1]) it had 439 students in 2009. Also, the fees webpage lists fees for "11 months starting 1 Feb 2009" so, unless it's about to close at the end of this year, I think afwiki must be wrong. No, the Afrikaans Wikipedia says that the Laerskool Oude Molen (popularly known as the "Grey School") closed in 1985; the "Blue School" is a different school, proper name Pinelands Primary. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.28.151.220 (talk) 02:08, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

That's what it says now. But if you look at the version of the article from November, when we had this discussion, it did in fact claim that the Blue School had closed. It doesn't say that now, because Greenman fixed it as a result of this discussion. - htonl (talk) 02:28, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Churches

In Pinelands there are two Catholic churches; a chapel belonging to the Society of St Pius X just off Central Square, and a church further away, being the mainstream Catholic church. The SSPX are at odds with Rome, but since their chapel is an actual church in Pinelands, a mention here should be fair. RuralVirologist (talk) 18:03, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
